Who is Lucy Makepeace?
Having worked in the equestrian industry for 30 years, Lucy has extensive experience with horses from all walks of life. As an Equine practitioner since 2013, she has had the privilege of working with the worst equine welfare cases alongside leading vets as part of their extensive long term rehabilitation as well as working with leading international performance horse, and everything in between.
Lucy qualified in Equine Osteopathy in February 2023 with the worlds leading educator in animal osteopathy, Animal Osteopathy International. By having an osteopathic knowledge base from such high level educators encompasses her ability and beliefs in really looking beyond what is in front of you and truly understanding and doing her best for the horses in her care by a full and in depth clinical osteopathic based assessment process before applying appropriate treatment and management plans dependant on findings.
One Size absolutely does not fit all.
"I Look at the 'Whole' of the horse. The focus is not just the horses structures and physiology. Environmental and psychological challenges that the horse may face are also taken into consideration to have a positive impact on overall health. There is no point or benefit to the horse if we merely keep fire fighting symptoms without finding long term solutions" Lucy

Appropriate Osteopathic Treatment
After Care / Management Plan
What to Expect
There are several stages to my assessment and treatment process
Biomechanical Gait Assessment
Static Palpation / Assessment
A Full Biomechanical gait assessment will be undertaken on your horse. This includes a thorough observation of your horse standing, walking, trotting and there will be some movements that I will ask you to undertake in hand. In some situations I may ask to see the horse being ridden or lunged, but this is very case dependent and not always a requirement.
A significantly refined Osteopathic static assessment will be used to assess and examine your horses muscles, tendons, ligaments and range and quality motion of the joints. This will help identify any area of specific restriction, pain or dysfunction that may need to be addressed.
Treatment / After Care
Following on from bio-mechanical gait and static assessments, an appropriate treatment and management plan will be put into place according to clinical findings that best fit your horses needs. This may include soft tissue techniques, stretches, articulations and potential referrals to the horses vet and other equine professionals as appropriate.
There will always be after care advice given for you to continue to work on between assessments with a thorough explanation and demonstration to ensure that you are kept safe and efficient in undertaking these tasks

What My Clients Say
Lucy came today for our routine visit! Windsor was so relaxed he needed a lay down and a sleep afterwards

I asked Lucy to treat my two Warmbloods recently as I thought it would be interesting to see what she found in regards to their musculature. I'm a McTimoney Chiropractor and my horses get treated by myself every 4-5 months. I can honestly say her knowledge of structure and movement is fantastic. She was really thorough in how she approached each treatment. I would highly recommend her. She noted everything I had found on both my horses and also made me aware of problems I hadn't seen. Very professional and knowledgeable.
Both my horses felt great the day after, so much more relaxed and straight. I will definitely be asking for her help again.
